With the Oxford Test of English (OTE) and the Oxford Test of English Advanced (OTE Advanced), the University of Oxford offers two fully computer-based exams that are accepted worldwide as official proof of English. Eloquia is an authorised test centre in the heart of Frankfurt – with flexible dates and personal support.

Oxford Test of English (A2 – B2)

Adaptive standard test for A2, B1 and B2

The standard OTE assesses your English adaptively at CEFR levels A2, B1 and B2 – ideal for bachelor's studies, vocational training or starting a career. Total duration around 2 hours.

  • Speaking · approx. 15 min.: interview, voicemails, presentation, follow-up questions
  • Listening · approx. 30 min.: monologues/dialogues, longer dialogues, opinion identification
  • Reading · approx. 35 min.: short texts, matching, gap-fill texts, longer texts
  • Writing · approx. 45 min.: email (80–130 words), essay or article/review (100–160 words)

Results and assessment – OTE

How booking works: a year-round registration window is shown (1 Jan – 31 Dec). You register and pay the exam fee, entering your preferred date and time in the booking comments field. We then confirm your individual appointment, subject to availability.

Oxford Test of English Advanced (B2 – C1)

For higher levels up to C1

The OTE Advanced specifically tests higher levels and confirms English competence up to C1 – perfect for master's programmes, international employers and professional bodies. Total duration around 2 hours 15 minutes.

  • Speaking · approx. 15 min.: interview, voicemail, summary, debate, follow-up questions
  • Listening · approx. 35 min.: monologues/dialogues, longer monologues with notes, opinion identification
  • Reading · approx. 35 min.: short texts with multiple choice, matching, gap-fill texts, longer texts
  • Writing · approx. 50 min.: essay (220–280 words), summary of two sources (80–100 words)

Results and assessment – OTE Advanced

  • ResultsListening and Reading immediately; Speaking and Writing within 5 working days
  • Score scale 111 – 170B2 ≥ 111, C1 ≥ 141
  • Module retakespossible – the best result automatically appears on the certificate

Booking and procedure

Identical for both tests

1Reserve a date online – select OTE or OTE Advanced.
2State your preferred date – note the date in the comments field.
3Confirmation – usually within 24 hours.
4Test day – arrive 30 minutes before the start with valid identification.
5Exam – total duration 2–2.5 hours, short breaks possible.
6Results – instant score for Reading/Listening, complete PDF within 5 working days.

Important – Oxford user account: After you register, we add you to the Oxford (OUP) system with your name and email address. You then receive an email to set up your user account, which you need in order to log in to the system before the exam.
