Anyone wishing to have their French language skills assessed for professional reasons or for the purpose of naturalisation is well advised to take the Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF). The TCF is valid for two years and is recognised by international authorities and universities. The test is available as a paper version and as an electronic version.
The TCF variants at a glance
TCF Tout Public
Language certificate for students at undergraduate and postgraduate level – three compulsory and two optional tasks.
TCF Pour la DAP
For students in foundation studies and at schools of architecture (approx. 3 hrs).
TCF Québec
For immigrants to Québec – listening comprehension and oral expression, optionally reading and writing (approx. 45 min.).
TCF IRN
For naturalisation in France – four sections (approx. 45 min.).
